On my mind...

Obviously, with all of the big changes that are coming up in our lives, I have quite a bit on my mind. I thought I'd just post some of my questions/concerns/worries/ideas here for y'all to ponder and perhaps help me out with. Some are silly, some serious...feel free to be as honest as possible, I need all the help that I can get!!

1. Vaccinations. Where do I even begin with this one? Any good book recommendations or suggestions? Are there any pro-vaccine people out there? Con-vaccine people? Just don't really care people?? This has been on my mind frequently lately!

2. Our child's name. Holy moly, how hard can it be to come up with one that we both like??? I'm seriously starting to consider Amy Jr.! (We've already got 3 Amy's in the family, why not add one more?)

3. Sleep Routine Books. "The Baby Whisperer", "Baby Wise", "Parenting for Dummies"? Any suggestions? And if you do have one, can you tell me why you like it?

4. Vinyl Wall Designs/Letters. Yes, I'm thinking about these...A LOT! Do I use them? Do I not? Has anyone seen any cute ones? What do you guys think of the one below? Remember that the room will be Pink/Brown/Green :)

5. Car Seat/Stroller. Why is the ONE car seat/stroller combo that we really like sold out of every store in America? Anyone have a Chicco Keyfit 30 combo in Romantic...if so, I'll pay just about anything for it!

6. Houses. We're still in the midst of our house search, with one promising lead. We have the sweetest lady in the world working on it for us, but I'm still just wanting something to be settled already!

Hmm, I guess that's all for now. Like I said, feel free to give me some honest feedback...I promise you won't hurt my feelings if you think I'm a complete mess for thinking about all this stuff!...I'm fully aware of my mess-ness!

I really like the Baby Whisperer. She has a middle of the road approach (no crying it out, yet not touching your baby all of the time) that worked pretty well for us. Good luck!!

Happiest Baby on the Block! Read it now...before the baby comes. It'll help you through the first few months. As far as the other books/philosophies, we went with the Ferber method. Never thought we would, but it's really going to depend on the child. Each child needs a different type of routine, schedule, parenting. Vaccinations are another thing that is probably just going to take your own research. Most pediatricians do not use the vax with mercury in them anymore. Ours doesn't. I recommend talking to your pediatrician. Dr Sears has a book that goes through each vax and pros and cons, I think. I haven't read it, but it's supposed to be good if you're trying to pick and choose which ones.

I don't have alot of concrete facts and research, but definately vaccinate your kids. There are many disease such as measles, mumps, rubella, whooping cough, chicken-pox, polio, and many others that have all but been eliminated through the use of vaccines. I just watched an SVU episode where one child caught the measles and affected other children unknowingly and other children died.

As a nanny I have found that letting the children cry it out when they are a little older works wonders. It usually takes about 2 days, but the kids that I watch now will go to sleep within 2 minutes when she's put down. I haven't had a problem with her in a long time. It doesn't work for every child, but works for her. And mostly importantly a schedule and routine is a must. The baby needs to know what to expect and they will adapt to whatever schedule and will let you know that the schedule changed because they will probably miss a nap or bottle and be crabby patty.

Those are my thoughts for now! Oh strollers, I've been a nanny for over 10 years and have always said that I knew exactly what stroller, diaper bag, car-seat, and other parephenalia I'd want, but times and styles change. I don't if this is the one you want, but I like strollers that recline fully, have plenty of storage, a parent-tray, snack/drink tray for child, good-sized canpoy, and over-sized wheels.

ok now i'm really done.

Names: Good luck. It's ok to have a few narrowed down and waiting till you see her. What's so cool.... God already knows her name ;-)

Stroller: Can't help you out there either. Can you order online straight from the Chicco webiste?

Books: You can read and prepare, but you have to adapt to each baby. Take what works for you and her from each book and leave the rest. If you aren't comfortable letting her cry - don't! Trust your mommy gut. Cole naturally did the babywise routine and I thought I was the best mom in the world - piece of cake. Then came Brad. Brad's personally wanted NOTHING to do with a routine/schedule (still doesn't) I've heard great things about Happiest Baby on The Block.

Vaccs - One of those decisions each family makes on their own. You also can have the option of delay vacs. Talk to her pedi. I frequent a forum (http://www.mops.org/bb/index.php) and in the debate and discussion session you can find tons of info and opinions on this topic.

You are ahead of the game already. Just enjoy it!! Jen McD

oh - I've used the rub on lettering before too. Super easy to apply (but took a bit more love with slightly textured walls)
