Seems like I'm having a really big issue with heat lately. First, my dryer broke. Not really a big deal for a 2 person household...but add a baby into the mix and having a broken dryer can quickly turn into a disaster. And, oh Lord, PLEASE (I beg you!!) don't make me have to go back to the laundromat! I definitely had my fill of that place when we lived in England! You'd think a dryer would be an easy fix; however, since we rent (and the homeowners live in Korea), we're not allowed to contact a repairman until we get approval. Ummm, I know there's a time difference and all, but my dryer holds a special place in my heart so I'd super appreciate a return phone call :)
And now...my A/C is acting up! It seems to be working, but not all that well. I feel air coming out of the vent, and it certainly sounds like it's trying to cool the house, but the thermostat reads a steady 80...which would be fine, except that it's set for 75! And those 5 teeny degrees are KILLING me!! This body was made for English weather! Did I really just say that?! I am sooo missing the cool days, the overcast skies, and the afternoon rain-showers right about now. It is HOT, and I literally feel like I'm melting! I know, I know, woe is me, right?!
And, the cashier at Kmart said the funniest thing the other day that I just had to share with y'all! I mentioned the heat (can you tell I'm obsessed?!), and she said (in her sweet Southern drawl)...
"Well, I've heard it's even hotter in hell! So...you better try to stay out of that place! You have a blessed day, now."
I giggled as I walked away, and you can bet I'm going to everything I can to stay out of "that" place! Ha!

Our AC was doing the same thing. Have your hubby clean the coils. Josh did that for ours and it made a WORLD of difference. We set ours to 74 at night, and the AC would just run and run and never break 79 until 3 or 4 in the morning. Now that they are clean, it will stay at the temp we set it to. Our AC guy (Josh's uncle) says to clean those coils at least twice a year. Message me if you need more details!
Our A/C guy said the same thing about keeping the coils clean making a big difference for the efficiency. As for the dryer, could you use a clothesline? I know you guys have lots of humidity, but here a clothesline will have your clothes dry before you are even done hanging them up. Even with the humidity if you wash in the morning I would assume stuff would dry by evening and they make your whites whiter than ever. Even if the HOA says you can't have one as long as you take it down when you are done it shouldn't be a problem, especially if it is just for a day or two until you can get your dryer fixed.
Also, if you guys have a mall it can be a great place to hang out during the heat of the day if the A/C is out. When I was a kid our A/C went out during the hottest summer on record in Phoenix, we spent the day at the mall.
Oh, I just remembered. If you have a box fan you can put a wet towel over it and it will make the air the fan is blowing cooler. It will also make the room more humid so you may have to do a balancing act, but it might be worth a try. Good luck, hope they get it all fixed soon.
Love the comment. I've gotten some whoppers living here in Vegas...I can't really share them in a public place though :)
Haha!!! That was too funny. Glad you shared!
As for the A/C that was what ours was doing when we moved in to this house. We were almost out of freon (did I spell that right). Maybe that is your problem.
